The Relief Caring School curriculum has been specifically designed to support and develop our students, Academic, Vocational and Personal Development. It has also been designed to meet the needs of students with a range of SEND including; Autism, Asperger’s, ADHD, ADD, OCD, ODD, PDA, Dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia’s as well as supporting students SEMH conditions.

Our new Academic, Vocational and SMSC/Personal Development Curriculum has been specifically developed around our school’s mission statement to; “creating our children’s future”, our strong ‘power” ethos and our school values of Honesty, Integrity and Respect. It is our commitment to provide all of our students with a diverse and comprehensive curriculum that prepares them for life both inside and outside of school and beyond. Our curriculum offer has been designed by the SLT in close consultation with staff, students, parents and the whole school community.

Our key ambition is to deliver a curriculum that provides our young people with a range of opportunities to flourish socially emotionally and academically in today’s society. We have applied the 3is framework of Intent, Implementation and Impact to build a curriculum that will meet the needs, interests and aspirations of all of our young people.

At Relief Caring School, our Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) programme is the over-arching umbrella that encompasses our Personal Development Curriculum. Our personal development curriculum works alongside the academic and vocational curriculums to support students’ social and emotional wellbeing and to remove the educational barriers many of our young people face on a day-to-day basis both in and outside of school

Our Curriculum Intent

  • To design and deliver a curriculum that is fully inclusive, autonomous and flexible in order to meet the individual needs of students with SEND.
  • Provide an engaging, inspiring and challenging curriculum, which will develop pupils’ skills to the very best of their ability in Mathematics and English and across other areas of the curriculum.
  • The curriculum is delivered by passionate and skilled teachers.
  • A curriculum that imparts knowledge and develops skills, building on previous learning to ensure both are embedded.
  • prepares pupils for the next stage of their education and for life in modern Britain
  • Provide opportunities to build character, develop resilience and embed values of honesty integrity and respect to enable pupils to reach their full potential academically, socially, physically and mentally in preparation for the responsibilities and experiences of life.
  • Increase student attendance and enjoyment of learning.
  • Deliver a personal development curriculum that works to remove the social, emotional and educational barriers many of our young people face on a day-to-day basis.
  • Tutorials and Pupil voice sessions are well planned and actively involve students in the learning process encouraging them to take ownership of their education and make safe and healthy life choices.
  • Work closely with disaffected students to reengage them in their education.
  • Provide opportunities to develop quality work experience and work-related skills.
  • Design and deliver a meaningful personal development curriculum that provides opportunities to promote cultural capital through a range of enrichment activities and courses.

Our Curriculum Implementation
(How we will do this)

  • Staff design creative SOWs that work to promote interest, challenge and meet the needs of all students with SEND.
  • Staff carry out effective assessment processes (daily/weekly/half termly/termly/annually) in order to assess learning to close gaps and address any misconceptions.
  • Termly pupil progress meetings are carried out to monitor and measure all steps of progress.
  • Data is used to inform planning and develop interventions.
  • Improvement Partners (IPs) carry out monitoring visits and share finding with SLT.
  • Data trawls are conducted to identify any gaps or weaknesses and individualised interventions are put in place to enable students to meet progress and attainment targets.
  • Qualitative and quantitative data used effectively to develop quality of education
  • Pupil voice – questionnaires, and curriculum reviews used to plan and develop outstanding curriculum.
  • All staff accessing quality in-house and external weekly CPD training to develop quality of teaching and learning.
  • Quality Assurance processes continuously monitor and measure the effectiveness of the school curriculum.
  • Staff using a range of differentiation methods to stretch and challenge all students and to ensure all students have full access to the curriculum.
  • All academic and therapeutic interventions are closely monitored and measured each term by SLT.
  • Subject Leaders and SLT monitoring staff performance termly through deep dives, lesson visits, observations, scrutiny of work, data analysis, pupil interviews and questionnaires
