Blended Learning Model

Relief learners use a blended learning model, which combines teacher-led and computer-assisted instruction to work at their own pace. Teachers provide individualized instruction to Learners who use technology to work on their own assignments at their own speed. By using this blended learning model, students never have to feel as if they are behind or ahead of their peers.

They focus on their own tasks instead of focusing on the progress of their classmates. When students are not working on computers, they are involved in writing assignments and citizenship group projects. When learners stay on task, they are less likely to face problems such as expulsion, suspension, truancy and unexcused absences. Some learners just need some distance from individuals or environments that make it difficult for them to reach their potential.

Our Alternative Schedule

Relief is an alternative education program for at-risk middle and high school students who have challenging educational and behavioral needs that may keep them from being successful in a mainstream school setting, but who can succeed if their needs are addressed appropriately in a supportive environment.

As an alternative program for dropouts and at-risk high school students, Relief provides a flexible schedule so learners can meet their responsibilities away from school. Learners who have enrolled due to truancy, expulsion, suspension or personal reasons attend Relief as part of a schedule that works for them. Students typically attend two or three hour functional skills sessions during the day depending on their individual alternative education program. We help recover dropouts by giving them a schedule that works for them, no matter their challenges in life.

Our approach enables students to recognize their ability to learn, and celebrates and builds on their successes. These values transform students’ outlook on learning, while helping them develop self-esteem and envision opportunities for the future.

Whatever the reason we will offer every young person that we work with the chance to start again and feel included in an innovative and interesting
education programme where we aim, not only to build self esteem and confidence but actively work to improve reading, writing, understanding, Numeracy and ICT, motor vehicle, football coaching.

We strive to engage young people in a wide range of positive activities and to develop them as young adults, at a pace that is suited to that young person and with subjects and experiences that means they are interested and therefore willing to partake.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we have official policies & procedures?

We have a whole range of policies, procedures, risk assessments and evidence file of work that we have done - please ask to come in and have a look at any time. All of our staff are fully qualified and experienced and receive on-going in house and external training, are CRB checked and are all pursuing additional career development through either college or university.

Why are we different to other providers?

We are different to other education providers as we work with young people on an individual basis and help them to produce their own individual learning plan. We believe that learning should be fun, not target driven but stimulated with learning incentives like technology and that once young people are involved in planning their own future, attendance improves, confidence grows and the young person leaves us ready to take on the world.

What qualifications can young people achieve?

Qualifications include – Support with GCSE Maths, English, Adult Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, Key Skills, Citizenship, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Football Coaching, Health & Social Care and various on-line courses and anything else that may be appropriate for that young person to make that leap into further education or apprenticeships.
